 Company History

Hometown Computing was founded in 1996 by Larry Anglin, the current President and CEO.  After a successful career as an Electrical Engineer in Austin, Larry retired in 1995 at the age of 32 to return to his hometown of Hamilton.  Several months of careful market research revealed that the emerging market for internet access services was the best opportunity that matched Larry's technical skill, financial resources, and entrepreneurial spirit.

The first Hometown Computing office opened in Cleburne in February of 1996.  Managed by Mark Dudding, the beginnings of Hometown Computing consisted of sixteen modems and one T1 out to the net.  From there, the company grew quickly.  During 1996, we opened additional offices in Hamilton and Gatesville.  In the following years, we opened operations in Clifton, Whitney, Carlton, Stephenville, Glen Rose, Meridian, and Comanche.  In cooperation with other leading companies, we delivered internet access to places like Modena, Dolores, Knippa, and Donie.

In 1996, Hometown Computing landed one of the biggest web sites on the net, bowhunting.net, which has grown to encompass over a hundred different domains.  Other notable web sites that use Hometown Computing include Bill Miller BBQ, Jimmy Houston, and The Waco Symphony.

Hometown Computing lead the transition from analog to digital modems in 1998.  The improved reliability and remote management capability of digital modems has allowed us to deploy remote offices in unmanned locations, greatly expanding the reach of our company.

In 2001, Hometown Computing again took the lead in deploying wireless broadband.  High-speed, always-on connectivity at a fraction of a T1 price is a reality for most of rural Central Texas due to the efforts of Hometown Computing and our partners.

The future for Hometown Computing looks as bright as our history.  With an unrivaled network infrastructure reaching all over Central Texas, a highly trained and motivated staff, a consistently growing cash flow and no debt, Hometown Computing is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the latest technological developments to deliver ever better internet services to our customers.
